What a pleasure to read of your adventures and ranch lifestyle Jules. A good "shift" from school and urban and suburban environments....so next year, perhaps your work period could include CA, and we'd put you to work saving the otters, the whales (friends have boats where they help whales caught in nets, learning about the tidal pools etc. so you'd go from the land to the sea.....

I too look forward to firsthand accounts and photos...much love, Arlene

Jules,
We are enjoying your reports. What a wonderful chance to be close to the source of our food and animals--and also to participate. I spent 3 summers on a ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and have never forgotten the experience. City folk should all have such an opportunity. Our love to all there and bravo for being concerned about how we take care of ourselves and our Mother Earth.

Hi Jules,

Thanks for the report on genetically altered crops. I know what a problem it is and your first hand report was of great interest.

What is "safe shooting"?...when you don't hit anything but an inanimate target? (It probably beats the green pellet gun targeting the walls...but is it a cure?)

Your descriptions of the landscape and your life on the ranch are lovely.

Love,
Momma

Jules --

I can't wait to see you tomorrow, even though i know getting used to life back in the big city isn't going to be much fun. Just got back from the weekend in Kimberton with Bess. It was prettyyy snazzy. I'll tell you about it when i see you. I have actually so much work since i haven't had school for over a week. I guess it's kind of lucky you don't have actual class at Field so you won't be behind, yeah? I miss you loads around here, and i'm glad that starting tomorrow i don't have to be an only child anymore. give Jenny and Mark and the boys lots of love. Love you

Dear Jules,

Are those chickens on your shoulders? They must really like seeing you in the morning.

I'm imagining how good that milk must taste...not to mention the eggs!!

When you come home, you could probably get a job driving a snowplow, or a bulldozer I should say. There
is such a huge need here that as soon as you tell them about your driving experience, they'll sign you up in a flash.

Love,
Mother dearest

Hi Jules,

It is fun reading your words! I could feel the wind at Buffalo Jump, and remember the thrill of shooting a gun. Except mine was a .22, a bit smaller!

Susan and I are just back from a skiing yurt trip in the Uinta Mountains in northern Utah with Richard and Krissy.

Keep up the good work of learning, and teaching us!

Thank you for the report! You missed a whopper of a storm here, but today life begins to get back to normal (Federal govt. working, but with two-hour delay). Bravo on all your experiences. We look forward to an in-person report when you return, with even more pictures, we hope. Love to your cousins too! GPL and E
